The Way of Humility

This week, Spencer walked us through the Christ Poem of Philippians 2:5-11, helping us to see this beautiful theology about Jesus’ coming as not just theology about Jesus, but as a call that Paul gives to the Philippians and us to be made into Christ’s image of humility. 

Spencer discusses three characteristics of humility: not clinging to status, willingly becoming a servant, and embracing costly obedience. These characteristics led Jesus to the cross, but in the end of the poem, we hear that these characteristics are how Jesus fulfilled the law of God and rewarded him with enthronement in Heaven. Spencer ended our discussion by noting to us that our end goal is to be with Jesus, enthroned in glory, but that we only gain that crown by following Jesus by taking up our cross in humility, loving and serving the world.
